Sitting on Sundays
For beginners and practitioners alike, Sitting on Sunday Mornings at Big Stone House is a practice of...well...sitting. And more. It is good to have people in our lives who keep their cool when life throws a curveball, who have their feet on the ground no matter what, who generously listen and engage wholeheartedly with the people around them, who connect with people from the heart, who shine. You know what's even better than having those people in your life? Being one of those people.Meditation, mindfulness and contemplative practices help us become those kinds of people.Join Angie Arendt and Peter McGaugh for an hour on Sundays for some meditation, mindfulness practice and so-much more (including cookies): a time to push pause, clear some space in your brain and your soul, and connect with Life a little more. Some information:You do not need to attend every week in order to participate. This is a week-by-week offering open to anyone ages 12+ interested in learning and practicing meditation and mindfulness.Pre-registration is not required but is appreciated. There is no charge for these sessions; however, donations are appreciated.Chairs are available but cushions are not--if you would like a cushion, please bring one along.

12 Angry Jurors
Oct 20, 2pm; Oct 22-26, 7:30pm. Rural Root Theatre. Based on the 1957 movie, "!2 Angry Men" starring Henry Fonda. The drama depicts a jury forced to consider a homicide trial. At the beginning, they have a nearly unanimous decision of guilty, with a single dissenter of not-guilty, who throughout the play sows a seed of reasonable doubt. The story begins after closing arguments have been presented in the homicide case, as the judge is giving his instructions to the jury. As in most American criminal cases, the twelve men must unanimously decide on a verdict of "guilty" or "not guilty". (In the justice systems of nearly all American states, failure to reach a unanimous verdict, a so-called "hung jury", results in a mistrial.) The case at hand pertains to whether a young man murdered his own father. The jury is further instructed that a guilty verdict will be accompanied by a mandatory death sentence. These twelve then move to the jury room, where they begin to become acquainted with the personalities of their peers. Throughout their deliberation, not a single juror calls another by his name because the names are unknown to the jurors. Several of the jurors have different reasons for discriminating against the defendant: his race, his background, and the troubled relationship between one juror and his own son.

Roxy Swan
Roxy is joined by noteworthy jazz pianist Peter Brown and the very talented Dave Arthur on Bass. Starting as a jazz trio, rehearsals and animated discussion gave way to a wide array of songs spanning decades and genres. November 2nd's show can no longer be defined solely as a jazz concert. There are certainly some jazz tunes but there is also much more. Even a couple of originals. If you are not familiar with Roxy Swan, she is an engaging and dynamic entertainer. Her vocal presentation has an endearing authenticity that moves assuredly from vulnerability to palatable confidence. The talent and presence of these three individuals coming together is sure to affect you as they push and pull the beat of this superb song list.Pre-order tickets are $20 / at the door $24. Available at Tickets Please. For more information and media samples please visit www.roxyswan.com.
