What do a good movie, popcorn, and the library have in common? In Perth, they’re all part of a pretty great community partnership.
Since Studio Theatre Perth launched its monthly Film Club Fridays in September of 2023, moviegoers have helped raise nearly $24,000 for the Perth Library simply by coming out to enjoy a film.
The partnership has already made a difference. Earlier donations helped revitalize the Library’s Common Room, while contributions from 2025 and 2026 supported improvements to the upstairs kitchenette, making the large meeting room more functional for community programs, meetings and gatherings.
This past season’s proceeds will help refresh the Library’s Program Room with new paint, improved lighting and better acoustics.
Behind every screening is a team of Studio Theatre volunteers — selling tickets, serving popcorn, running the box office, and making sure the movie actually makes it onto the screen. Studio Theatre is a 100% volunteer-run not-for-profit, so every ticket represents a little community effort going toward an even bigger community benefit.
Library CEO Erika Heeson expressed her appreciation for the ongoing support, which is a wonderful example of local organizations working together to make the community stronger.
And the partnership continues.
Year Five of Toronto International Films at Studio Theatre begins on Friday, September 11, with films presented monthly on select Fridays at 2pm and 7pm. Admission is $15, or film lovers can purchase a five-film pass for $60 at the Perth Union Library or Studio Theatre box office.
So come for the movie, stay for the popcorn — and feel good knowing your ticket is helping support both Studio Theatre and the Perth Library. That’s community entertainment with a pretty good ending.
