Come and spend a quiet, beautiful hour at St. James Anglican Church in Perth on Sunday, October 25 at 4pm. The church is delighted to welcome organist Frances Macdonnell and the Cranmer Singers from Ottawa for a special Evensong service.
What is Evensong? It is a peaceful, centuries-old service of prayer, scripture readings and choral music that happens in the late afternoon or early evening. Even though the name might sound unfamiliar, you do not need to know the words or be Anglican to enjoy it. The choir does most of the singing, so you can just sit and listen.
What will you hear? Expect gentle psalms chanted in four-part harmony, beautiful choral anthems, and the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis — the traditional songs of praise and thanksgiving in Evensong. With the St. James Liturgical Choir and the Cranmer Singers blending into a choir of more than 20 accomplished singers, the music will be rich and reflective, set against the backdrop of St. James’ beautiful stained-glass windows.
St. James offers a warm and welcoming space for everyone. People come for many reasons: for the music, the peace, for a moment to pause, to be moved.
Come as you are. Bring a friend. Leave the rush of the week at the door.
