This February, the Mississippi Mudds youth take on Hadestown, Teen Edition, a bold, nearly sung-through musical filled with tight harmonies and a jazzy groove. The show is a modern retelling of the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone, weaving themes of love, faith, and defiance into a powerful story about choosing hope in a harsh world.
Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape that blends the feel of a lively speakeasy with an industrial underworld, Hadestown, Teen Edition features haunting songs such as Anyway the Wind Blows, Way Down Hadestown, and Wait for Me. The result is a timeless theatrical experience that feels not only mythical but also contemporary.
“Who doesn’t hope for a better tomorrow?” says director Bobby Martin. “Hadestown captures that raw emotion — the hope for a new day. Each character brings a different perspective on that hope, and we learn that not everyone’s hope can be realized.”
The production showcases the musicality, diversity, and energy audiences have come to expect from Mississippi Mudds. Theatre-goers are invited to join this talented young cast on a mythical journey down the “Road to Hell” and back.
Hadestown, Teen Edition is the second major musical of the Mudds season, following a sold-out run of Annie in November. Upcoming productions include Broadway Showstoppers in March and the hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong in May.
