The Kanata Choral Society will open their 39th season with a performance of Vivaldi’s Magnificat. In contrast to Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s arrangement is somewhat more subdued, although no less intense.

The concert features many other wonderful composers such as John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, Bob Chilcott and Mark Sirett, as well as lovely arrangements of The First Noel by Dan Forrest, and When a Child is Born by Fred Jacobson and Zacar. The audience will also get a chance to sing along with well-known carols.

The choir will be under the direction of Scott Auchinlek and accompanied by Eliana Kurilov de Castro on piano as well as a small orchestra of strings. Soloists include Cameron Hunter (soprano), Bryanna Vanderlek (soprano), Preston Smith (tenor), and Justin Willnette (bass). The emcee for this performance will be Don McLeish.

The concert takes place on Saturday, December 6 at 7:30pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, located at 20 Young Road in Kanata. There will be a silent auction and a reception following the performance. Tickets are $22 for adults in advance or $25 at the door, $20 for seniors, $10 for students, and free for children under 13. Tickets can be ordered online by visiting kanatachoralsociety.ca.
