Don’t miss the first TIFF movie in the Mississippi Mills Film Society’s Winter/Spring 2026 series! DJ Ahmet will be screened at the Almonte Legion on Sunday, February 22 at 2pm.
Directed by Georgi M. Unkovski, DJ Ahmet tells the story of a 15-year-old Yuruk boy from a remote Macedonian village who escapes into music amidst parental expectations, societal conservatism, and forbidden love for a promised girl. This movie garnered multiple nominations and awards at film festivals around the world. And now it’s coming to Almonte!
Toronto-based movie critic Peter Howell writes: “The bleat goes on for music-loving teen sheepherder Ahmet after his flock invades a rave and TikTok notoriety ensues. He has bigger things to worry about: a grieving dad who wants to pull him out of school, a younger brother who refuses to speak, and a major crush on a girl who is about to be married. Georgi M. Unkovski’s coming-of-age comedy finds much to smile about in a North Macedonian village where conservative traditions clash with modern times.”
Tickets are $15 per film (fees included) from Tickets Please (TicketsPlease.ca, 485–6434), and a series pass to all three is available for only $42. The next two movies will be shown on March 22 and April 19. Follow the Mississippi Mills Film Society on Facebook for all the details.
All proceeds from these screenings are donated to the Mississippi Mills Public Library, Almonte and Pakenham branches. The Film Society gratefully acknowledges their partnership with Film Circuit, presented by TIFF, and its sponsors and supporters.
