Introduction to Nalbinding

Participants will learn two main Nalbinding stitches, the Oslo stitch and the York stitch, and produce a small pouch. The use of unspun wool for Nalbinding will also be demonstrated as well as the preparation of a pattern.

Anne Skarzenski has been immersed in textile arts since childhood. Holding a BA and an MA in Art History, Skarzenski has nurtured her passion for historical arts on her farm in the Gatineau hills. A family legacy of work in the textile industry in France led her to the art of Boutis, a technique from 15th century Provence. In her workshops, Anne Skarzenski fuses history, skill and creativity, guiding students through this ancient practice with a fresh, modern twist.

• Teacher provides: The teacher will bring kits including: wool, needle and instructions.
• Student to bring: Students must bring a bowl for water for dipping tips of wool, a small towel for drying fingers. Students can bring a headlight, a pencil and notebook.
