Introduction to Tapestry Weaving

Learn the basic techniques of frame loom weaving and create your own ready-to-hang wall tapestry. Explore textured stitches like Rya knots, Soumak braiding, and tabby weaving. All materials are provided, including a selection of high-quality fibers in several colour palettes. You will have use during the class of a pre-warped frame loom. Finished piece is approximately 7” by 9”.

Jackie Kavanagh of Mapleweaves

As a self-taught fibre artist, Jackie creates playful, visually dynamic fibre artwork using traditional handweaving techniques. She loves the tactile experience of working with natural fibres and the challenge of creating abstract designs that leave room for personal interpretation. Weaving is a free flowing, spontaneous and meditative process so each piece is an originally designed and handmade work of art. She has participated in various art shows and events in the Ottawa area since 2021.
