Leather Journal Cover Making Workshop

Participants will design and craft a handmade leather journal cover using traditional leatherworking techniques. You’ll learn the basics of working with vegetable-tanned leather, including creating your cover design, edge finishing, hand stitching, and dyeing.
Guided step by step, you’ll choose your design, assemble your cover, and finish it with thoughtful details that make it uniquely yours. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a finished leather journal cover.

Marianna Hegedus

I was born in Hungary. I graduated from Art school in 1997. At school I learned different techniques and mediums which led me to specialize in textile, traditional weaving. I moved to Canada in 2001, but not having a loom here for weaving, I was looking to find other creative outlets to fulfill my passion. Taking various courses got me into making jewellery from horsehair, quilting, wet and needle felting and leatherwork.

After living in Ottawa for almost 20 years I decided to find a place where I can be closer to nature as well as to have a place for mounted archery and horses, which is my other passion knowing that my ancestors were the Huns. 3 years ago I moved to Bowman, Quebec to a 40 acre property. I’m working on building up my little business, teaching ground archery (instinct shooting), running leather workshops as well as summer camps and retreats. Now I have the opportunity to be inspired by the calmness of the quiet nature, which surrounds me. I incorporate this into my work.
