Wearable Rug Hooking

Designed for the intermediate rug hooker, but beginner friendly, who has some simple machine sewing skills and who is limited only by their imagination.

This workshop is meant to encourage participants to step outside the norm of floor and wall hangings and step into wearable art with a twist of imagination.

Participants will supply their own jacket and rug hooking supplies based on a list that will be provided upon registration.

Winnie Glavine of Hooked Creations NL

Winnie Glavine, a Juried Rug Hooker,  has been hooking mats, suitable to become functional art and family heirlooms, by using strips of previously loved clothing and sustainable fiber such as wool fabric and wool yarn since 2003.
Winnie has been commissioned by the Town of Torbay to depict the heritage of the Town in Rug Hooking.  The City of St. John’s included Winnie’s ‘Looking Out” (cats looking out the window of an old heritage house) in its 2020 Art Procurement Project.  Also, by the Canadian Campaign for Wool where she was invited to interpret through rug hooking a piece, Barn by the Seashore of J. E. H. MacDonald, one of the Group of Seven.   Winnie also joined Rug Hookers from around the world for the Magnificent Bugs in Rugs project, her piece is the Panda Ant (which is in fact a wasp).   Continuing with her rug hooking apparel, Winnie was invited by the curators of Engulfed 2024 (engulfed-englouti.com) to create a dress for an Exhibit and Fashion Show held in Montreal, Canada during Montreal’s Fashion Week of 2024. To round out 2024, Winnie’s Town of Torbay was chosen for “Hooking Skies” by Áine M. Humble, being published by Rug Hooking Magazine during the Winter of 2025.
