The Perth Citizens’ Band, Canada’s oldest continuous town band, will be holding its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 14 at 2pm at the Perth Legion, located at 24 Beckwith St. E.

This 31st annual event continues the long tradition that started in the mid-1920s and was later revived by bandmaster Brian Tackaberry. The concert will also feature readings by Brent McLaren, Perth Town Crier, and will include a variety of popular and sacred Christmas music for all ages, including a tribute to Charlie Brown’s Christmas and the Overture to Handel’s Messiah.

The audience is always welcome to sing along with their favourites. One highlight from the band’s music archives is the performance of Canadian Patrol, written over 100 years ago by Capt. John Slatter of the 48th Regiment of Canada. This piece was played by the band through the 1920s to 1940s during the Christmas season.

This year admission to the event is free, to thank the community for its continued support as the band ends it year of celebrating 175 years of making music in the Perth area. For further information, visit the band’s website perthband.ca, find them on Facebook, or phone 264–3611.
