Cycling Without Age Lanark County (CWALC) is looking forward to our fifth season in Lanark County, and we have amazing news! We are excited to announce the addition of a second regular trishaw to the fleet as well as a VAN RAAM. The latter is a special trishaw that accommodates wheelchairs! Wheelchair passengers are easily loaded onto the trishaw without missing a beat or having to transfer. From the comfort of their wheelchairs, they too can enjoy the outdoor experience of riding the Carleton Place trails and/or travelling through town.
Mark your May calendar and join us for various community events. On Saturday, May 2 we’ll be at Milano’s Pizza for Pizza Trishaw Day. We invite you to meet us at 26 Bridge Street in Carleton Place for a slice of pizza and a free trishaw ride through town.
On Saturday, May 9 we look forward to seeing you at the Carleton Place Farmers’ Market Opening. We invite you to come and talk to us about becoming a pilot (the person who pedals the trishaw). We’ll take you for a ride and then you can take us for a test ride!
A growing fleet of trishaws means that we are looking for more qualified pilots. If you are an experienced cyclist, interested in giving back to your community and enjoying the companionship of seniors and disabled persons, we can offer you a most fulfilling volunteer experience. Whatever time you have available to share with us is most appreciated. If this sounds like something you’d like to know more about, please contact Treff Peters at 257–2892.
If you’re ready for a commitment, consider attending our free training sessions scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 and/or Sunday, May 16 at Stoneridge Manor starting at 9am. To prepare for the training, participants should confirm their attendance with Treff and read the online modules found on our website cwalc.org
Our new trishaw and VAN RAAM are in desperate need of a double-width trailer for storage and transportation to CWA events. We continue to fundraise and appreciate all and any contributions. If being a pilot is not your thing, you can still help out by being a donor and/or sponsor. See our website for more information. In the meantime, please say hello when you see us on the trails, in town, or passing through your neighbourhood.
