Two new exhibitions will run from June 6 to July 10 at Almonte’s Sivarulrasa Gallery. Everyone is welcome to attend the Vernissage/Artists Reception on Saturday, June 6 from 2–4pm.
Cathy Ross: The Seasons features 15 new works in watercolour by the New Brunswick-based artist, exploring themes of the four seasons. “My paintings are meant to be intimate,” she says. “I want the viewer to pause and take in the subtle joy of the ordinary and the ephemeral beauty of the natural world.”
Cathy Ross was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. She studied at Mount Allison University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Her paintings are held in many private and public collections across Canada including Memorial University, New Brunswick Museum, Canada Council Art Bank, Banff Centre, and the Burnaby Art Centre.
Hannah Cretien: Dérive presents a series of portraits and abstract works through which this Montreal-based artist explores how persona is experienced. “Dérive is the French word for drift,” she says. “I am carried by a current, my desire to create.”
Born in Appleton, Ontario, Hannah Isabelle Cretien currently works from her studio in Montreal, exploring themes in figuration and abstraction. Working in oils, acrylics, ink and a variety of other media, she allows experimentation to guide the making of each work.
Meet artists Cathy Ross and Hannah Cretien on Saturday, June 6 from 2–4pm. The Gallery is located at 34 Mill Street in Almonte. For more information, please visit sivarulrasa.com.
