On Sunday, June 21, the solstice arrives to announce the coming of our warm summer months. For Indigenous Peoples, it is a special time of renewal and connection to the earth. In many communities, it is often a time for family gatherings. On Sunday, June 21, families in the community are invited to take their children to Union Hall. Beginning shortly after 2pm, they will have a read-aloud circle featuring the book Thirteen Moons on Turtle’s Back. Children will also make a themed craft to take home. The program will end around 3:30pm with a light snack of berries and cookies.

All are welcome. There is no cost to attend and no need to register in advance.

And… Psst — hey kids! It’s also Father’s Day. You can do the inviting! Bring along your Dad, Grandad, Uncle or special neighbour.

Union Hall is fortunate to have the support of generous local businesses. They are grateful to Mill Street Books for their support with this event.

National Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrated annually on June 21, honours the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of the three groups of Indigenous peoples who are recognized in Canada’s Constitution: First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.
