Riversong Players is celebrating a successful spring season while preparing for an exciting summer and fall filled with performance opportunities for youth and adults alike.
In June, Riversong Players presented Godspell at the Almonte Old Town Hall. Performed by a cast of just nine actors ranging in age and experience, the production offered audiences a fresh and imaginative interpretation of the beloved musical. The show highlighted the strength of community theatre, bringing together emerging performers, volunteers, musicians, and technical crew members to create a memorable theatrical experience for local audiences.
Following the success of Godspell, Riversong Players recently held auditions for Finding Neverland, welcoming approximately 40 young performers eager to take part in the magical story inspired by the creation of Peter Pan. The enthusiastic response reflects a growing appetite for theatre opportunities in Mississippi Mills and the surrounding area. While youth participation was particularly strong, Riversong Players continues to welcome adults interested in becoming involved onstage, backstage, or as volunteers.
Registration also remains open for Riversong Players’ Summer Youth Intensive production of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Designed for participants ages 8–18, it combines theatrical training, character development, music, movement and performance skills, culminating in public performances this September. With only a limited number of spaces remaining, interested families are encouraged to register soon.
Beyond its mainstage productions, Riversong is excited to be partnering with local festivals this summer, including Celtfest and Puppets Up! These collaborations will provide additional performance opportunities for local artists while bringing live theatre, music, storytelling and interactive experiences to festival audiences. By participating in these events, Riversong hopes to further enrich the cultural landscape of Mississippi Mills and create new pathways for community members to engage with the performing arts.
“Community theatre is about more than putting on a show,” says Artistic Director Beth Robertson. “It’s about creating spaces where people can connect, grow, tell stories, and discover their creativity. We are thrilled to see so many young people and families embracing these opportunities, and we’re excited to continue building a vibrant arts community right here in Mississippi Mills.”
