It is not necessary for our world to move deeper into the misfortune of heat domes, forest fires, droughts, floods, and other effects of climate change. These problems can be reduced if we try.
The governments in Ottawa and Toronto put more effort into expanding the activities that cause the problems. The Green Party’s priority has always been to establish a peaceful balance on a healthy planet.
Come check out your local Green Party. Our riding associations invite you to our annual get together.
We will gather on Wednesday, September 2 at McMartin House in Perth, with doors opening at 6pm. We will start with a finger food potluck. Coffee, tea and juice will be provided, and we will use real dishes.
At 7pm, guest speaker Jess Lax of the Algonquin to Adirondacks Collaboration (A2A) will speak on The Importance of Wildlife Corridors. We are in both a climate crisis and a biodiversity crisis. The A2A corridor runs from around here deep into the Eastern United States. We need to help wildlife in their travels, not just in protected areas.
After the presentation and Q&A session, we will hold the annual general meeting (AGM) for the Lanark-Frontenac Green Party of Canada EDA, followed by the AGM for the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston Green Party of Ontario.
Although we are already experiencing the climate crisis, there is still hope that we can prevent the worst consequences. As Bill McKibben said in his recent book Here Comes the Sun, every small fraction of a degree that we can shave off warming helps. The transition to solar and wind power is inevitable based purely on the economics, but we need to ramp up implementation. And we need to seek more satisfaction from the wonders that living enables.
If you are ready for the Green Party, we are ready for you!
All are welcome. For more information contact Anita Payne at 267–0881 or payanita@gmail.com.
