Following cross-country tours to Alberta, B.C. and Quebec, CBC Radio host Tom Allen is bringing his J.S. Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow show to St. Paul’s United Church in Perth on Thursday, April 23 at 7:30pm. Tom has had many years on air with CBC Radio and CBC Music, and is currently hosting the weekday afternoon program About Time, as well as This is My Music on Saturday mornings.

In addition to himself as narrator, Allen, a master storyteller and trombonist, brings a wonderful cast of musicians including mandolinist, guitarist and singer/songwriter Joey Wright, singer Patricia O’Callaghan, multi-instrumentalist Pete Gemmell, and harpist Lori Gemmell. Further information about the performers can be found at tomtomallen.com/performances.

Allen describes the story line: “At 20, and in his first job, J.S. Bach got into such trouble that the only thing he could do was to walk away. J.S. Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow takes you along on that journey: a 400km odyssey to a glittering northern port city with street fights, big business, insight, fulfillment, the father figure he didn’t know he needed, and, quite possibly, love. The story is linked together with glorious music by Bach and other composers, allowing J.S. Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow to bring that troubled young man in from the cold.”

The Music Team at St. Paul’s has been involved in promotion and support for the concert, and proceeds will support the work of St. Paul’s stpaulsperth.ca. Tickets are $30 from TicketsPlease.ca or cash at the door.
