Taking place on July 11 and 12 from 10am to 4pm each day, this weekend-long studio tour is held annually in Arden, Ontario — a quaint little hamlet halfway between Peterborough and Ottawa and about a half-kilometre south of Highway 7 (turn at the flashing light). Because the various venues are close to each other, you can visit and enjoy them all in a single day with minimal driving.
Gallery on the Bay, Warritte Studios, Arden Pottery and Arden Batik are four different locations in the village, and the work of five other contributing artists will be on display at the Kennebec Community Centre. Fine artists featured are Judith Versavel, James Hanley, Kim Doe, Joanne Pickett, Arlene Uens and Sarah Hale at their studios; with Kristi Bird, John DuChene, Deborah Jodoin, Aileen Merriam and Dayle VanAlstine at the Community Centre.
Fine art paintings and drawings, jewellery, felt characters and two-dimensional felt works, pottery and batik will be available, as well as a variety of gift items suitable for all occasions.
Enjoy what Arden has to offer, including C4 Country Convenience — a gas station and convenience store which also boasts a chip stand that serves up delicious hamburgers, fries and much more; picnic tables are provided here and at the Arden recreation park. Grab refreshments and food at the local Legion on Saturday, or take your lunch and enjoy a swim at the public beach on Price Road. Washrooms are available at the Community Centre.
Stroll through lovely gardens at Gallery on the Bay and Arden Pottery, and take in the inner workings of Sarah’s batik studio situated in the old Arden Hotel, a designated historic site.
Pick up the studio tour brochure, which has a map and contact information for the artists, at any of the venues. All are welcome to this summer art event. Prepare to be amazed by these local creatives!
