I have had the great good fortune of living beside the Mississippi River in Blakeney for 26 years. As we made the hard decision to downsize, we were able to soften the move by finding a lovely little house in Almonte very near the river. Walking everywhere will be a great new adventure, and a new studio will arise there!

In celebration of one chapter ending and another beginning, I have invited three artists I admire to come and show their work in Blakeney with me on the weekend of August 8 and 9. We plan a fun weekend of art and friendship in this place of so many good memories, family weddings, and many other gatherings.

I met Frank Von Boxtel as a student here at my summer workshops and now he is making waves as a potter in his own right and continuing his popular painting practice. You can see what he does @franciscus_art. Maria Moldovan has quickly become one of Canada’s premier makers of ceramic art since moving to Canada from Romania several years ago, and hopefully will bring some of her wonderful paintings along to our show as well. Find Maria @moldarya. Finally, closing our chapter in Blakeney wouldn’t be the same without having my dear friend of 60+ years here too. Robin Hollingdrake and I met in grade school as the two weirdos who could “do art”, and we have continued down that road in parallel ways over this whole time. You can find her @robinhollingdrake. She will bring her colourful lively paintings and collages and be here to help celebrate as we wrap up this chapter of our lives by our precious river.

The Art in My Garden party, art show and studio clear-out sale will take place on August 8 and 9 from 10am to 4pm each day. Drop by at 178 Blakeney Road, in the village of Blakeney near the bridge!
