Theatre and film have been lifelong passions for Kairiin Bright. Her freelance design career has taken her across North America, from coast to coast, and as far north as Dawson City, Yukon. Her work has been featured at the prestigious Prague Quadrennial, and she has taught theatre design at Concordia University in Montreal.

Since relocating to Smiths Falls in 2019, Kairiin has connected with local artists in both theatre and fine art. Designing The Wizard is…Odd!? for Humm Team Productions last year was a particular highlight. Grateful to be part of such a vibrant artistic community, she is delighted to contribute to its richness and diversity.

Kairiin learned to draw and paint as a way of communicating design ideas for the stage. Life drawing, plein air studies, and architectural sketches were all part of an ongoing practice — exercises to strengthen her ability to design scenery, costumes and lighting.

This exhibition marks a shift in perspective. The focus is no longer the performance onstage, but the work itself. What once served as preparation has been reimagined as a finished product: a collection of paintings that stand on their own.

This exhibition features a selection of work spanning theatre design, plein air painting, and life drawing. Everyone is welcome at the opening reception on Saturday, April 11 from 3–5pm at the Smiths Falls Town Hall (77 Beckwith St. North), for light refreshments and lively conversation.

The exhibition will remain on display through the end of June.
