Bringing the Netherworld to Life in Beetlejuice Jr.

Who knew a show about death could be so full of life? At St. John Catholic High School, Spartan cast and crew are bringing light to the darkness in their production of Beetlejuice, Jr. With performances scheduled for May 6, 7, 8, and 9 at 6pm, as well as a special matinée on May 9 at 2pm, students, staff, and the wider community are invited to experience this wildly entertaining and spooky musical comedy.

This lively adaptation of the Broadway hit brings together humour, unforgettable music, and a quirky cast of characters from the Netherworld. Beetlejuice Jr. explores themes of identity, belonging, and embracing what makes us unique, all while delivering a high-energy theatrical experience. Under the direction of the school’s arts, music, and drama programs, and with the support of dedicated staff and volunteers, students have been working tirelessly to bring this imaginative production to life.

On top of showcasing the incredible talent at St. John CHS, this performance includes the début of the school’s new lighting system, which was purchased through a grant graciously given by the Perth and District Community Foundation. On the new lighting system, SJCHS music teacher Kyle Doucette says he is: “speechless! Everyone should see how awesome our stage production is going to be. We have levelled up!” Kyle, along with Hilary Longtin and Gabrielle McKinnon, are the teachers involved with this production through the school’s Reach Ahead Musical Theatre course.

All shows take place in the St. John Catholic High School Auditorium, located at 2066 Scotch Line Rd., Perth. Tickets can be purchased through Tickets Please (TicketsPlease.ca, 485–6434). They can also be purchased at the door; however, seating is limited, and tickets are anticipated to sell quickly. There will also be a canteen to purchase refreshments and a merch table.

Whether you’re a fan of the original film or simply love supporting young performers, Beetlejuice Jr. at St. John Catholic High School promises to be a fun, spooky, and heartwarming theatre experience for all ages.
