When the Fugitives played at Union Hall this past March, they put out a call for a banjo player. Tim Loten, a talented musician from the Perth area, answered that call. His remarkable ability to seamlessly step into the group and complement their sound impressed both the band and the audience alike. When Tim performed a solo number, everyone in the hall was further captivated. We knew we had to have him back.

Now Tim is returning to Union Hall, this time with his own band, Crooked Creek. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience the musicianship that made such an impression earlier this year when the band takes the stage on July 31.

Crooked Creek is a young up-and-coming bluegrass band based in Ottawa and Montreal. Combining traditional bluegrass with folk-inspired songwriting, the group’s original songs draw inspiration from their upbringing in rural Canada. Banjo player Tim Loten and guitarist Jono Townsend both grew up in the Ottawa Valley, and their songwriting reflects the sounds and stories of small-town Canada.

Crooked Creek performs at Union Hall on Friday, July 31, and tickets are available at TicketsPlease.ca. If Tim’s unforgettable appearance with the Fugitives this spring was any indication, audiences can expect an evening of exceptional music and heartfelt storytelling.

Union Hall, constructed in 1857 through the efforts of local farmers, has been used continuously since, remaining a community hub today. With its rustic charm and excellent acoustics, it continues to be a popular venue. It is located at 1984 Wolf Grove Road, at the corner of Tatlock Road.
