Something is coming to McDonald’s Corners! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? On Saturday, August 8, get ready for a day filled with music, creativity, and endless fun at our special event: MERA’s Soaring Through Summer. The event takes place at two locations in McDonald’s Corners: MERA (McDonald’s Corners/Elphin Recreation & Arts at 974 Dalhousie Concession 9A) and the McDonald’s Corners Agricultural Society (at 194 Cameron’s Road). This exciting family-friendly event is designed to bring joy and excitement to children of all ages!
It starts at the McDonald’s Corners Agricultural Hall from 11am to 4pm with everything related to flight — from arts and crafts to hands-on games and activities and live music. The day is filled with demonstrations of drones and presentations on birds. Children of all ages can immerse themselves in games; build kites, birdhouses and airplanes in the arts and crafts zone; explore award-winning film shorts on flight; and dance along to lively tunes in the music area. Face painting and bubble play will add to the magic, making the festival an unforgettable experience for kids and parents alike. In addition to all the fun-filled activities, numerous community organizations and vendors will be on-site. And of course, no festival is complete without delicious food — there will be plenty of options available to keep everyone fueled for the day’s adventures!
The day continues at MERA with art, music and pizza from 4pm to 10pm. Take in the artworks of Michael Flahault, and discover a wide array of works from landscapes and portraits — a must-see! We will raffle off one of his paintings, and the draw takes place at 6pm. Enjoy refreshments from the MERA Café and pizza from MERA’s famous pizza oven. At 6:30pm we have a special concert from our favourite musical family, TriPOD, featuring award-winning singer-songwriter Terry Tufts with Kathryn Briggs and Beth Tufts. They will offer a mix of original music (some works dedicated to flight) and cover tunes presented with passion, fun, and a love of music!
