Dear Almontonians, let’s go beyond Hallmark, shall we?

For as long as I can remember, films have been the core tenet of my life. From humble beginnings serving this community at Video-flicks, just as the VHS and DVD era was coming to an end, movies have remained a constant. In the past two years I’ve become an ambassador of this town and a champion of film with my social media handle on Instagram: @nilshamster / nils on film / your small town movie guy, which has shown tremendous growth and reach.

As the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) approaches its 51st edition this September, this opportunity is ripe and will prove paramount in ushering a new era for yours truly, and it’s an honour to once again represent Almonte on a global scale among film enthusiasts and tourists alike.

They say it takes a village, well I’m here asking my village for their support in attending this year’s edition. Any contribution directly impacts my ability to travel, have lodging and attend special galas and screening engagements for the festival. Attending TIFF offers invaluable networking opportunities as an ambassador of Mississippi Mills during this event, including but not limited to local and global brand activations, local news organizations, social media collaborations with fellow cinema culture accounts, industry socials and celebrity access.

Today’s audiences engage with authentic creators. As a dedicated creator, I will provide behind the scenes festival coverage, daily video diaries, premiere reactions, red carpet commentary, film reviews, interviews (where permitted), industry insights and live audience engagements.

I’ve designed a custom shirt to be worn for the duration of the festival. Displayed on the front: “My Town Got Me Here” an eye-catching hook that’s sure to garner attention and admiration by thousands; last year its 50th landmark edition had 700,000 attendees. Should you so choose, in recognition of your support I will happily adorn your signature, name, or business logo as a visual motif for those who’ve helped make this all possible.
