After a summer spent at Camp Half-Blood, Riversong Players is heading into a busy fall filled with pirates, fairies, ghosts — and the promise of more adventures to come.
September saw Riversong’s young performers take the stage in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, the culmination of the company’s eight-week summer theatre intensive. The cast spent the summer not only rehearsing the musical, but exploring character development, acting technique, movement and storytelling while working together in the outdoor setting of Malkov Farm.
The experience was designed to be about much more than putting on a show. Over the course of the summer, the young company built friendships, took creative risks, and developed their own interpretations of the characters and world of Greek mythology before bringing the production to audiences at the Almonte Old Town Hall.
Now, Riversong is trading Greek gods for Neverland as rehearsals ramp up for Finding Neverland, coming to the Almonte Old Town Hall this December. Featuring a large community cast of children, teens and adults, the musical tells the story behind the creation of Peter Pan and celebrates imagination, play, family, and the courage to believe in something extraordinary.
But audiences won’t have to wait until December for Riversong’s next adventure.
This October, The Ghost Walk of Almonte returns with an entirely new immersive experience: Follow the Thread… Beware the Lady in Red.
Beginning at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, audiences will follow the thread through the streets and shadows of Almonte as a mysterious story unfolds around them. Part walking tour, part theatre and part Halloween mystery, the experience will feature eerie tales, unexpected characters and theatrical encounters along the way before concluding downtown at the Barley Mow with a complimentary beverage.
Performances are planned for October 16, 17, 24, 25 and 30, with timed evening departures. Tickets are $15 – $25 and are available at TicketsPlease.ca.
And there is still more to come. Following Finding Neverland, Riversong Players will continue its second season in 2027, with the remainder of the season lineup to be announced soon.
From a summer spent training young demigods to an autumn of ghosts and a December journey to Neverland, Riversong Players continues to explore what community theatre can be —bringing performers and audiences together through imaginative, immersive and unexpected theatrical experiences.
