Please join the Friends of the Tay Watershed for their 25th annual Watershed Discovery Event for the community on Saturday, August 15 from 8am to 1pm at the Perth Farmers’ Market at the Crystal Palace. It features a morning of information and interactive displays for adults, with interesting and fun activities for children.

Expert organizations have answers to your water questions and updates on current water-related issues in the region. You’ll find information and displays from Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Watersheds Canada, Climate Network Lanark, Plenty Canada, Real, Our Turtles, and Ottawa Riverkeeper, along with Friends of the Tay Watershed.

Learn about the programs in place to manage and protect home water supplies, manage watershed water bodies and related resources including wildlife, assist in caring for waterfront properties, and receive updates on current environmental issues in the community. This event will provide information on the crucial role that wetlands and natural environmental systems play in flood and drought control, maintenance of surface and well water, and animal and plant habitat, as well as challenges to them from extreme weather, development pressures and changes in watershed infrastructure.

Children can enjoy and learn from the Paddling Puppeteer at 9:30am and 11:30am; participate in Perth Library’s Story Hour at 10:30am; examine water critters by microscope, have fun fishing in the “Fishpond” to see if they can identify the invasive species, and receive a blue heron tattoo.

Renew your membership and have a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Perth’s Maximilian Restaurant. Come to the Farmers’ Market to relax and learn with your Friends of the Tay Watershed. Shop and support local farmers, growers, bakers and craftspeople.

The Friends thank their partners the Perth Farmers’ Market, the Town of Perth, and the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority. For more information, please visit them at taywatershed.ca.
