Exhibition: Jihane Mossalim
Aug 3-Sep 16. In these new paintings by Montreal-based artist Jihane Mossalim, the artist explores past, present, and future, and the illusion of time. The paintings are inspired by old family pictures and strangers' discarded photographs. The resulting paintings appear foreign and familiar at the same time, evoking an eerie intimacy. In this exhibition, the artist has also added an element of "augmented reality" which will be accessible via an app on a smartphone! Meet the artist Aug 20.

Almonte Song Circle Collective
Almonte Song Circle Collective
A group of Ottawa Valley musicians meet Thursday evenings for a weekly acoustic session. From 6-7pm they try out new songs for & with each other, then 7-8pm they'll play familiar cover tunes & invite people to sing along. New musicians welcome! “What we ask of new musicians is that you be able to get through a single song or songs from start to finish in a musical way. Playing just one song in an evening is perfectly OK, but if you can’t sing on key, can’t keep your instrument tuned, or riff all over someone else’s song to the point of distraction, we sort that out." - Nathan Rudyk.

Almonte Lectures: Confessions of an Orchid Lover
Almonte Lectures
Speaker: Janet Johns. Enrol for Zoom. What are orchids anyway? What makes them so special, and why would anyone be interested in growing them? My lecture will present key characteristics of orchids with examples, tell some tales of the Victorian Orchid Craze, and dispel a few myths about growing tropical orchids at home. I will also outline the role of orchid societies in the hybridization and conservation of these beautiful plants and how they can provide some unexpected world-wide connections in our fragmented society.

Exhibit details: Oct 1 - Dec 18, Tue-Sun, 1-4pm. An initiative to reduce the isolation artists experienced during Covid, the installation is composed of 3 sections: left panel was created by Line Dufour, referencing the contemporary practice of tapestry; middle of irregular shapes contributed by weavers worldwide; end panel was woven by visiting participants. As Dufour receives each weaver’s shape it is documented and posted to the project’s social media. To date, 864 shapes have been received from 43 countries, and a total of about 520 people have participated. The installation continues to expand as it accepts woven pieces on an ongoing basis.

Exhibition: Fate, Destiny & Self-determination
Oct 1 - Dec 18, Tue-Sun, 1-4pm. Vernissage: Oct 1, 2-4pm.
