Lecture: From Victim to Activist – 60s Scoop Survivor
Learning Again in Almonte
Speaker: Colleen Hele-Cardinal / sîpihkopiyesiw shares her journey as a survivor of the Sixties Scoop. Colleen was just a baby when she was forcibly removed from the care of her mother, a residential school survivor, and adopted to Sault Ste.Marie, where she was raised by a white family, along with her two blood sisters. She tells her poignant story of abuse and victimization. Dealing with the generational trauma and confusion about her place in the world left Colleen in a dark place but she became determined that this would not be the sum, not only of her story but the stories of so many victims of the Indigenous Survivors of Canada’s child welfare system. She will share with you how that determination led her to her role today, bringing survivors together into a new community, for healing, celebrating and activism. Register

Lecture: A Luthier's Life - Guitar Maker Linda Manzer
Learning Again in Almonte
Linda Manzer has been designing & building world-class flattop & archtop acoustic guitars since 1974 and has studied with master luthiers. Linda's creative journey has given birth to many cutting edge innovations including the “Wedge”, an ergonomic tapered guitar body shape originally designed for the renowned 42-stringed Pikasso guitar and available on all models since. Other interesting instruments include the sitar guitar, the fretless nylon archtop guitar, and harp guitars with as many as 52 strings. Manzer collaborated with Pat Metheny on building a very special limited edition model (30 only) -- the Metheny Manzer Signature 6 limited edition -- to celebrate her 30-year collaboration with multiple Grammy recipient Pat Metheny. Manzer's guitars have been played by many well-known musicians and shown in museum displays. Most recently she has spearheaded the Sunflower Guitar for Ukraine project: a guitar she built to raise money for humanitarian aid for Ukraine that is currently journeying through the hands of musicians and artists to its eventual home in Ukraine. Artist Reception: Louis Thériault
Come and meet the artist who is showing at the Gallery Feb 10 - Mar 24. View this solo exhibition of new paintings by New-Brunswick-born, Gatineau-based artist Louis Thériault. With a Cartesian spirit, his compositions exploit perspective, geometry and trigonometry. The works explore shapes, textures and relationships between objects, adding to or subtracting from his observations in the physical world. The artist’s inspiration for the new body of work in Duality comes from current events, personal situations, historical facts or nostalgic moments where he has observed elements in complementarity or opposition.

Folkus: Suzie Vinnick & Lloyd Spiegel
Folkus Concert Series
Vinnick needs no introduction to local audiences, as she is a long-time friend of Folkus, beloved for her blistering bluesy guitar and bass chops, and honey-sweet vocals. Suzie has won 10 Maple Blues Awards, 1 Cdn Folk Music Award and is a 3-time Juno nominee. She has also twice won the International Songwriting Competition — Blues Category. She has just released her seventh solo album entitled Fall Back Home. Lloyd Spiegel is almost Suzie’s Australian counterpart, with 14 Australian Blues Music Awards under his belt. He blends jaw-dropping guitar chops with a commanding voice, powerful songwriting, storytelling and comedy. A touring artist since age 11 and with 10 albums to his name, Lloyd has squeezed more into his 40 years than many do in a lifetime.

Almonte Song Circle Collective
Almonte Song Circle Collective
A group of Ottawa Valley musicians meet Thursday evenings for a weekly acoustic session. From 6-7pm they try out new songs for & with each other, then 7-8pm they'll play familiar cover tunes & invite people to sing along. New musicians welcome! “What we ask of new musicians is that you be able to get through a single song or songs from start to finish in a musical way. Playing just one song in an evening is perfectly OK, but if you can’t sing on key, can’t keep your instrument tuned, or riff all over someone else’s song to the point of distraction, we sort that out." - Nathan Sloniowski.
